Marketing Land had a great article on the power of email marketing in politics and looks back on the effectiveness of Barack Obama’s email marketing during his successful 2012 campaign and why it’s a great lesson for Internet Marketers (or any business).
They listed many reasons why President Obama’s email campaign was successful, but one stood out to me: behavorial segmentation. The campaign put the email givers in four categories and wrote copy specific to each category.
How does this pertain to you? If you are conducting (or thing of conduction) a local political campaign it is imperative that you learn from the masters. You must know your voter, how to segment them, how to reach them and then how to speak to them to get them to do what you want them to do. Whether that is to get out and vote, come to a rally, or take an online poll.
I really suggest you read this article because it is a very well written and timely article regarding the intersection of local political marketing and Internet Marketing.
